Pelvic Laparoscopy Surgery in India
Learn about the Pelvic Laparoscopy
Pelvic laparoscopy is a surgical procedure that allows for the examination of pelvic organs using a specialized instrument known as a laparoscope. This procedure is also used to treat various conditions affecting the pelvic region.
Why is Pelvic Laparoscopy Needed?
Pelvic laparoscopy is utilized to diagnose and treat issues involving the fallopian tubes, uterus, ovaries, and other pelvic organs. Doctors may recommend this surgery for several reasons, including:
- Identifying the causes of chronic pelvic pain
- Investigating abnormalities such as ovarian cysts or tissue masses
- Examining the fallopian tubes
- Determining causes of infertility or ectopic pregnancy
- Assessing the extent of endometrial, ovarian, or cervical cancer
How is Pelvic Laparoscopy Performed?
This procedure can be done in an outpatient clinic or a hospital. Typically, general anesthesia is administered, though in some cases, local anesthesia may be used to numb the pelvic area.
Once the anesthesia takes effect, the doctor makes a small incision about half an inch above the navel. A narrow tube called a cannula is inserted to inflate the abdominal cavity with carbon dioxide, creating space for the surgery. The laparoscope is then introduced through the incision near the navel, and additional small incisions are made near the pubic hairline to allow for the insertion of extra instruments. A uterine manipulator may also be used to reposition the pelvic organs for better visualization. After the procedure, the instruments and gas are removed, and the incisions are closed with stitches and bandages.
What are the Risks of Pelvic Laparoscopy?
Some common risks associated with pelvic laparoscopy include:
- Vaginal bleeding
- Infection
- Fever
- Swelling, bleeding, redness, or discharge at the incision sites
- Breathing difficulties
- Nausea or vomiting
